Props

The main props which will be used in the trailer will be the china dolls which will act  as the antagonists. The variation of dolls which can possibly be utilised are shown below. Some of these dolls, for example the disney themed characters, cannot be used in full due to their child-friendly appearance, however they can be used for closeups if necessary. In addition, some of the dolls are too pretty looking to seem intimidating, those dolls may be used possibly as extras would be, for use to portray quantity but never to appear as a main threatening 'character' as this would not be effective.

Ways which the doll can be manipulated:

- Changing costume.

- Using AfterEffects/PhotoShop.

- Physically manipulating the prop.

- Using lighting and setting in order to alter the tone of the prop.

Examples of this are shown below.

Issue 2 - Using an older looking actor

Matthew Johnson

Protagonist

Matthew is a 22 year old man, who lives in a house on his own in a secluded area. He finds a box of dolls in the attic of his house and begins to be haunted by the spirits possessing the dolls.

Here is an example of an actor which could easily be used as a main character who appears to be in his early 20s. He will be played by Roberto Jezerca, a 18 year old man with short brown hair and a beard.

Issue 3 - Synopsis

Action plan from pitch 2:

Re-think how the synopsis can focus more on the dolls, ideas include the discovering of the dolls in the attic, seeing the dolls in photographs when viewing them, items being destroyed or moved with the dolls at the scene, the absence of some of the dolls when trying to find them, other occurrences which could be massively representative of the horror genre and fear.

Synopsis:

After the death of a family member, Matthew Johnson discovers a large box of china dolls in the attic while looking for photographs. He begins to notice things in the house being moved and broken. He mentions to a parent about the dolls that they found and they face an unusual reaction of hostility and aversion to talking about the dolls, he is discouraged from going up into the attic and interacting with or opening the box again. After more unusual things happen, he confides in his parents again. They reluctantly inform him that he had a rather strange childhood, involving possession, witchcraft and the supernatural. His parents had researched expelling negative entities and performed a ritual where they entrapped the spirit in a group of objects, which were then stored away with intention to never be freed. Matthew, finally allowing him-self time to look at the photographs which he found in the attic, discovers the dolls in the background of various demonic looking photographs of his younger self, and from the corner of his eye he sees what looks like a china doll. In a panic he races to the attic to check on the dolls where he finds an open box with noticeably fewer dolls in it, and the ones which did remain were visibly moved. This is where he begins to be tormented by the dolls, where a vengeful entity is fighting to conduct the possession of Matthew.

Location

These photographs are of the outside of the house looking either into the garden or onlooking the house it's self. The house is old fashioned, it has many attributes which we could utilise in order to create a tone which is relevant to the horror genre, such as stone statues. There are many of these in the garden of the house. The house is detached therefore upon filming it can be made out to be extremely secluded and isolated, especially when looking directly at the house there are no houses behind to ruin this impression.

Outdoor Area:

Interior of Housing:

As shown the interior of the house can be used well due to its older and more dated nature. The marble flooring, in addition to the floral patterned rugs and furniture creates an older appearance in the house. The annexe of the house is also shown above, which is useful for using one location for two different ones in the trailer. The annexe also gives a more claustrophobic appearance therefore relating to the genre.

Title

The titles of horror movies, as shown in the research, must show clear correlation to the horror genre, with the definition of the words used used either presenting a theme of fear or the supernatural. When using longer titles we must use the form of representing of a certain event, with the plot of the film often being based on real events, alike 'The Amityville Horror' and 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre'. When using relation to a character or act in the title like in 'The Exorcist' and 'The Purge', we must include the word "the" in order to present a sturdier and nicer sounding title, with clear relation to the contents of the movie. If we produce a title consisting of an adjective, it must be presented to be used singularly, such as the movie 'Insidious'. This is in order to sum up the film with the descriptor, relating to a horror themed experience. If using a title where monosyllabic words are not used, such as 'Paranormal Activity', the title should combine two words, one in relation to the genre and one as a representative of the movie's plot. The use of this format also provides a memorable and conclusive title for the films. So one word must relate to horror, and the other word should  relate to action and what happens in the film.  Upon brainstorming and testing including the target audience, it was decided that the movie will be called 'The Voices Within'.
