First Shoot - Natasha Falce

The photos displayed above are the best photographs taken from the first photo shoot I have done. These images, although portray a clear musical theme, are ineffective and therefore were not used. The first aspect which contributed to the images not being good enough is the colouring of them. Due to the fact that the images were very dark, I had to increase the brightness of them using Photoshop, resulting in the contrast being odd, in addition to the colouring appearing to yellow. Although I could have fixed this using colour correction on Photoshop, I felt that having an effective original photograph was important, therefore I did not use these images for my magazine. In addition, the backgrounds created an ineffective image which were distracting from the subject. I originally planned to remove the background using a combination of the quick selection tool and the select colour range tool in Photoshop, but, again, I wanted to start with effective photographs which did not need to be altered too much.

The photos displayed above are the best photographs taken from the second photo shoot I have done. For these photograph, I developed my first shoot by thinking in depth about the studio setup, making this my priority for this shoot. The lighting and design of these images portrays a dramatic atmosphere, relating to the genre of chosen music as it is dark and mysterious. However, I decided not to use these photographs as they do not relate to any of the images which I have seen in my research which were used on the front covers of magazines. This is due to the lighting, framing, makeup and clothing of the subject.

Above are the photographs which I decided were the best for use in my magazine, below are all of the photographs I took for this shoot. The best photographs are effective for use due to many factors. Firstly, the subject is in many positions, making the photographs applicable to the front page, the contents page and the double page spreads. The image on the far right will be used or the front cover. The photograph is a mid-shot, allowing the majority of the subject to be seen and mimicking the style which my research presents other magazines to use in front covers. The lighting, however is slightly weak but will be easily adjusted using the brightness adjustment tool in Photoshop. The photograph in the middle presents the image to be used as the background for the contents page. The subject is outside, with a black wrap around her, providing an area which can be easily used to add text to, due to it's block colour nature. The subject is smoking, relating to the genre as it is symbolic of rebellion and also relates to the 'smoking' stereotype which rock stars and fans have. In the two images on the left show the photographs to be used for the double page spread. The subject is in a studio setup, which also appears to be relatively casual. This mimics the themes portrayed in my researched double page spreads as they are not as 'studio' looking as the front cover even if they are studio setups. In addition, the framing and composition of these images are perfect for use on a double page spread as in the first image the subject is positioned on one half of the image, allowing the other to be taken up by text which relates to the theme of the subject's image being on one side of the double page spread, with text on the other side. The second image portrays the subject sitting across the image, which allows the text to fit around her, in the negative space around her body. In addition, the use of a guitar further portrays the musical aspect of the magazine.
