History

' Rock music is a genre of popular music that originated as "rock and roll" in the United States in the 1950s, and developed into a range of different styles in the 1960s and later, particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States.[1][2] It has its roots in 1940s' and 1950s' rock and roll, itself heavily influenced by blues, rhythm and blues and country music. Rock music also drew strongly on a number of other genres such as electric blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz, classical and other musical sources. ' - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_music

' Classic rock is a radio format which developed from the album-oriented rock (AOR) format in the early 1980s. In the United States, the classic rock format features music ranging generally from the late 1960s to the late 1980s, primarily focusing on commercially successful hard rock popularized in the 1970s. The radio format became increasingly popular with the baby boomer demographic by the end of the 1990s. Although classic rock has mostly appealed to adult listeners, music associated with this format received more exposure with younger generations of listeners with the presence of the Internet and digital downloading. Some classic rock stations also play a limited number of current releases which are stylistically consistent with the station's sound, or from established classic rock artists who still produce new albums. The history of Rock is shown above. Rock and Roll has been around since 1950, as shown, and branched off into many independent and unique sub-genres. It is clear that Rock music reached its peak in popularity many years ago, however, upon research, it appears that many young people enjoy the genre. This is shown through the questionnaires. It is important to acknowledge that Rock and Classic Rock was primarily popular in the 80s because it effects the target audience as they now are less stereotyped as the contemporary fans' parents may have been rock fans, resulting in a variation of people to like the genre due to its nostalgic nature, this is explained further on the page relating to target audience photos.
